Crossing the Greve river and passing through Via Moro to the sports fields, the area of intervention expands due to the existence of unused or public green spaces. The proposed network will integrate the whole existing green to create a recreational urban center for Scandicci.
Children’s early learning experiences have a profound effect on their development. “Because children’s experiences are limited by their surroundings, the environment we provide for them has a crucial impact on the way the child’s brain develops” (Strong-Wilson & Ellis, 2007, p. 43). Learning in kindergarten shall promote an understanding of sustainable development that has not been well-defined for the Florentine kindergarten and it seems that few kindergartens are actively engaging with this concept.
Sustainable kindergarten is not just a green building that is environmentally responsible and source-efficient throughout it’s life-cycle but also is going to create a sustainable culture. “with their dynamism, energy and new ideas children demonstrate considerable potential as agents of change” says Dr percy-Smith.
The aim of this project is to deal children with sustainable activities in more practical way and to make them understand their part in the system to care for the planet and others and to feel empowered that they can make a difference.
